Chihuahua (medium coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Senior : : Small Learn more about the Chihuahua.
Meet Patch. He arrived at SWAT in mid-August...two months ago. No one has called, no one has posted a missing Chihuahua...his family forgot about him so it's time for this guy to start over. Patch was reported running around, loose, by someone's home for two long weeks. He wouldn't come to anyone. He would take off running if anyone came close to him. Of course, if I was only 7lbs and 1
2" tall, I'd probably run from strangers too. Eventually a humane trap was set and Patch's stomach took over...he wound up inside the trap. He arrived at SWAT snarling and biting at everyone. We put him in the Love Shack to cool down and reassess when HE was ready. We used gloves to pet him for the first few days. After a week, he finally settled down just enough to allow us to pet his back without snarling at us. He still took off out the dog door if we moved too quickly. After two long months and many baby steps later, we feel Patch is ready to find his new home. He is still very cautious of everything, but he has come such a long way since coming to us. He is going to need that special person; he needs someone who will be patient with him and doesn't have a lot of activity in the home. It took him a long time to trust us, but he finally does and he is worth the wait! He has gotten along with and has even tried playing with the kittens we have. He doesn't mind other dogs his size at all. Bigger, rambunctious dogs scare him. Kids will probably scare the you-know-what right out of him....we do not recommend children for this guy. If there's anyone willing to give this little guy a chance, please let us know by filling out an application and/or contacting us.
