Do you remember me? I'm Salsa. The dog who was hit by a car over two months ago and it left me for dead. SWAT got a call FIVE DAYS after it happened. Yeah, you read that right. I sat in a ditch for five days with a broken pelvis, with a friend by my side. That friend was Silas, by the way. He's adopted. Anyway, SWAT got the call and they showed up within minutes. Silas hopped right into a truck an d me...well, They had to carry all 62lbs of me and lay me down in the backseat of a car. Silas was taken to a foster home and I was taken to a vet. Not my first choice, but I was in a lot of pain. It turned out, I had three fractures, two in my pelvis and one in my spine. AND, to top it all off, I was heartworm positive. Oh joy, right? So, it was decided to start my heartworm treatment and put me on strict kennel rest to allow my injuries to heal. After two months, SWAT thinks I can accept adoption applications and possibly go home AS LONG AS my new family understands and will continue my treatments at home. Now on to the fun stuff. I'm only 2-3 years old and I weigh around 68lbs. I am sweet, sweet, SWEET to every person who meets me. I'm a staff favorite when I visit Shipman's Vet Clinic. Other dogs? I'm not too crazy about. I growl at every dog I see. I'd rather be an only child in my forever home. Cats? I've met the cat in my foster home and we play if he wants to play but otherwise, we could care less about each other. SWAT would also like to make my forever family aware that I will probably develop arthritis a lot sooner than later. I will probably need to have some medications to take that pain away for the rest of my life. I will also need a family to keep up with my heartworm prevention, once I kick these heartworms to the curb. Is all of this too much to ask for? I know there's a family out there who will love me forever and ever, quirks and all. You can find the application here if you think we're meant to be: www.savingwhiskersandtails .org
